UV Absorbers
UV Absorber UV-531
2-Hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone
The cost-effective benzophenone with broad polymer compatibility from PE to PVC.
Product Description
UV-531 (also known as BP-12 or octabenzone) is the most widely used benzophenone UV absorber. Its octyloxy chain provides excellent compatibility across an unusually broad polymer spectrum — polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, polystyrene, ABS and polyester — at highly economical cost per kilogram of protection.
In agricultural films, shrink wrap and outdoor furniture, UV-531 prevents UV-induced embrittlement and discoloration. It is frequently combined with HALS in films: the benzophenone absorbs UV radiation while the HALS interrupts the degradation chain reactions.
Typical loadings are 0.1–0.5 wt% in polyolefins and up to 1.0 wt% in PVC. Aolong UV-531 is crystallized to ≥99.0% assay with consistent melting range for predictable masterbatch let-down.
