Photoinitiators
Photoinitiator 2959
2-Hydroxy-4′-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-methylpropiophenone
The water-compatible α-hydroxy ketone for aqueous and biomedical UV systems.
Product Description
Photoinitiator 2959 is an α-hydroxy ketone bearing a terminal hydroxyl group that grants real solubility in water and water-miscible monomers — around 1–2% in water at room temperature, far above 184 or 1173. This makes it the standard initiator for aqueous UV-curable systems.
Its low odor, low volatility and long history in biomedical hydrogel literature also make it a natural choice for cosmetic gels, dental materials and bio-printing resins. Typical loadings are 1–4 wt%.
