Photoinitiator 1173

2-Hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenone

The most widely used liquid Type I initiator — clear, stable and easy to formulate.

Product Description

Photoinitiator 1173 is the most widely used alpha-hydroxy ketone initiator worldwide. As a clear, low-viscosity liquid it dissolves readily in acrylate oligomers and monomers without heating, making formulation and dosing simple even at ambient temperatures.

1173 offers strong absorption in the 250–340 nm region with good thermal stability and low volatility, providing efficient surface cure for varnishes, adhesives and electronics coatings. In white systems it is frequently paired with TPO or 819 to balance surface and through-cure.

Typical use levels are 2–5 wt% in clear coatings and 1–3 wt% in adhesives. Aolong 1173 is distilled under vacuum to reach ≥99.0% assay with very low color (APHA ≤ 80), protecting the clarity of optical and electronics formulations.
