Photoinitiators
Photoinitiator MBP
4-Methylbenzophenone
The methyl-substituted benzophenone — stronger absorption than BP, equally economical.
Product Description
MBP is the para-methyl derivative of benzophenone. The electron-donating methyl group shifts absorption slightly to longer wavelength and raises extinction, giving somewhat faster surface cure than unsubstituted benzophenone at equal loading.
Like all Type II initiators it requires an amine synergist (EDB, EHA, EAB) or an active substrate such as polyethers. Typical packages run 2–4 wt% MBP with 1–2 wt% amine in inks and clear coats.
